Please join us at 99 Montrose, Brooklyn NY for the launch Jennifer Bartlett's new book, The Hindrances of a Householder.
Jennifer Bartlett is the author of three books of poetry, a biography of the poet Larry Eigner, and co-editor of the anthology "Beauty is a Verb: The New Poetry of Disability". She has had individual works published in Poetry, The New York Times, Brooklyn Rail and many other journals.
The Hindrances of a Householder is about mixed identities and the philosophical question of whether good people can make wrong choices. The character "Jennifer," who means to move her life of domesticity is confused with a more famous Jennifer -- a painter. "Real" Jennifer breaks away from the mundane. Her and her husband decide to enter an open relationship which leads to a myriad problems. This is a book, at times saucy, about the complexity of identity, sexuality, and longing. This is a book about writing and swimming pools; best friends and loss. This is a book about a turtle race in New Mexico, and the difference between art and poetry. If you are too busy to read, there are photos to enjoy.
